Review Seminar 2004:

Hi - It's Ged Lynn from England here!

This is the first opportunity I've had to thank everyone for making the seminar such a wonderful event. Many thanks to Ron and Frank, and everyone else who seemed to be running around organising things.

Being the first time I'd ever even SEEN another stick; never mind PLAYED one, I didn't have a clue what to expect. I didn't know whether my 'instrument' would be up to the job. It wasn't!..but I never felt as though I was 'the other one'. Everything was totally inclusive, and the feeling that everyone - no matter whether they were a beginner or expert-was in the same boat (literally..) was the best memory I have.

All in all - the best musical experience of my life - honestly! I've played the guitar for 20 years - enough time to be VERY bored with it, and music in general. Trying the stick was a change in direction, but after the Zandaam seminar, I'm totally focussed towards playing the stick as much as possible; talking to other players as often as possible, and telling the world about it!! LOUDLY!!

Keep in touch, everyone

Ged Lynn

Which tuning do you use?
Ged: normal 10 string tuning. Bass c,g,d,a,e. treble f#,b,e,a,d,

How long have you been playing?
Ged: about two years, on and off.

What other instruments do you play?
Ged:I've played guitar for 18 years

What is your music level?
Ged: A beginner on the stick, but I have a degree in
music.

Please give me also a number(1,2,3 or 4) of thevlevel of knowledge/skill of the next subject:
-Reading Staff Notation
-Reading Tablature
-Can you play major/minor ?
Ged:I would say '1' for all except tablature '2' - I'm still very much a beginner. I try to teach myself a few classical piano pieces (Bach etc)but am very eager
to meet and learn from better players than myself.

Do you play in a band?
Ged: No, I'm still learning to play solo!

Which specific subjects would you like the teachers to concentrate on?
Ged:I would like a general introduction to everything the stick is capable of. Whatever is taught and played is fine by me.

On Saturdaynight you can also play a few songs at the pubconcerts, would you like to play a few songs as well?
Ged: No, I'm very happy to watch the professionals.

On Sundaynight we?ve got the Jamsession, would you like to jam with us?
Ged: Same as above

Which kind of music do you like?
Ged: I'm a big fan of classical, but I'm very eager to use the stick to increase my limited knowledge of Jazz/world music.

How did you discover the Stick?
Ged:I walked past Jim Lampi playing it outside'Rose-Morris' shop in Denmark St, London, in 2001, and was hooked.

What is your goal in music?
Ged: To play the stick to its full potential, and get to know others who realise what it can do. I see music today as something in which the crossovers between 'styles' are more common and interesting than the pieces 'within styles,' and the stick, being such a modern and developing instrument, is perfect forexploring this.

Do you eat meat/fish or are you vegetarian ?
(We?ve got to know this for our communal dinner)

Ged: I eat anything!
